‍ English Musicals Korea

As part of the Gyeonggi-do Future Education Campus in Paju, South Korea, English Musicals Korea (EMK) is one of the country's leading English-language educational theatre companies, reaching more than 15,000 students annually. EMK develops and produces original musicals designed to immerse children in the English language through engaging, educational, and entertaining performances. Productions are presented in the campus's resident theatre, tour schools throughout Gyeonggi Province, and are professionally filmed for distribution to schools across South Korea.

Resident Artist | March 2024 – September 2024
Artistic Coordinator (Director) | September 2024 – Present

As Artistic Coordinator, I oversaw all artistic programming and production activities for the company, managing an annual operating budget of more than $20,000 and coordinating projects from development through performance. Responsibilities included:

Producing two original musicals year
Leading, managing, and coordinating across all artistic departments (Set, Props, Costuming, Music, Choreography, Scriptwriting, and Visual content)
Overseeing the creation of educational materials
Managing touring operations and logistics
Supporting hiring, onboarding, and artist development
Maintaining departmental budgets, production schedules, and company calendars
Directing and supervising the direction of productions and cast put-in rehearsals
Providing performance, design, and building support as needed

The role required close collaboration with the campus's Korean administrative leadership to ensure all artistic initiatives were aligned with the broader educational mission and operational objectives of the Future Education Campus. Shows worked on included

The Toy Store (Resident Artist)

Choreographed select pieces and assisted in the teaching of choreography
Followed close construction plans and painted large-scale, detailed set pieces
Created workbook educational material
Performed regularly (up to 5 times a week) in the role of Henry the Toy Soldier.

School For Monsters (Tour Show) (Resident Artist; assumed Artistic Coordinator responsibilities during the production)

Acted as a facilitating director, rehearsing actors into the run of the show as they joined the company

Acted as touring manager for one of the tour’s seasons, coordinating logistics with the school, actors, and company
Facilitated a show revamp to improve scores based on audience and school/ teacher feedback. This included writing changes to the script and overseeing set, chorergpahy, and directional changes.
